Suspended 40 meters above Fairhaven Beach, the Pole House is one of Australia’s most iconic homes. Recently renovated, The Pole House now adds a luxurious modern setting to a holiday experience like no other. Whilst carefully planned and crafted, The Pole House is not about accommodation, nor is it about facilities or amenities, of which it has many, The Pole House is about the experience. Picture yourself waking to the sound of crashing waves, opening your eyes to find yourself suspended above the most spectacular coastline in the country. The Pole House is adventure, so take yourself to the edge and indulge in one of the most unique, iconic and awe inspiring destinations. Sea you there…..

PLEASE NOTE: this property is NOT suitable for children. Cheese platter and sparkling wine for illustrative purposes only (NOT supplied).

“It is rare someone writes a book good enough for it to enter the literary canon and be enjoyed by successive generations. Decades pass between the composition of one great symphony and another. Its just as infrequent that an architect designs and builds a house that becomes iconic, even famous. In Australia there is the Rose Seidler House, built in NSW in 1950 by Harry Seidler; The Walsh Street house, built in 1958 by Robin Boyd; Grounds House, built in Victoria by Roy Grounds; the Philip Island House, completed in the late eighties by Barrie Marshall; Gottlieb house by Wood Marsh; Kempsey House designed by Glenn Murcutt; and Castlecrag House, in NSW, the work of Hugh Buhrich. One quickly comes to the end of the list.

The avant garde is not so rare. Neither is the excellent. But the avant-garde and excellent together is achieved so seldom we can hold the names of these select few in our heads.

The Pole House at Fairhaven was built by Frank Dixon and instantly became a landmark, a manmade natural attraction, a concrete apostle, a sentinel guarding the eastern gate to The Great Ocean Road. It was built by the ancients in the seventies, a time before computers and ring roads when the coast was a rumour, and it became a totem in a far place.

Children in cars heading down the coast held competitions to see who could spot it first. It became such a shared part of the landscape people stopped to take photos, and as you stand on its balcony with a drink in your hand people wave from passing cars and toot their horns as if you hold some honourary position. Its current owners call this being anonymously famous.

Driving past the Pole House these last thirty-odd years Id always wondered what it would be like looking down from the inside out across the sea. It turns out to be one of those rare experiences that exceed expectations like Paris or the Great Barrier Reef.

The house has just been redesigned by Franco Fiorentini from F2 Architecture and is a brilliant new statue on an already famous pedestal. The first feeling one has at the Pole House is a vertiginous thrill based on altitude and distance, as if you are Leonardo DiCaprio leaning high out over the water off the front of a mighty ship as it cuts through rolling swell. Apprehension and awe mingle as the house sways gently. You are both airborne and seaborne, having left land, and the very Earth, behind. You’re also brought face-to-face with the paucity of you own language as you keep repeating the same hackneyed phrases over and over. Wow. I cant believe this. Wow.

The house is a blaze of architectural brio. The taps have lights hidden in their mouths shining down along the bubbling paths of falling water, and alongside each light a diode, so when the water is cold it is blue, as the temperature rises to warm it turns purple and by the time the water is hot it is bright red. The couches recline and stretch at button-press. Blinds covering two whole walls rise at the press of another button, uncovering half the world. Wave your hand near a set of light switches and they glow and tell you what’s on and what’s not. The main room curves around a central bathroom pod clad in burnt ash panels. In front of the floor-to-ceiling window a suspended fireplace hangs from its own chimney essentially a fire burning in a cold sea. The floor is a dark stone the Medicis might have trod.

For all this, architectural features really have no significant place in the wonder of this house. Its defining and beguiling feature is that the sea and sky are in the room. The rumbling surf and two hundred degrees of ocean with a vast superstructure of cloud overhead. The mood of the house is set by the mood of these elements. Subservient to a constantly changing pageant of light, cloud, wave and colour.

Dramatic reefs of fire to the west as the sun goes down, while in the East saturated purples fall to night. The closer you are to the sky the more its intricacies are laid bare. You soon understand this room might hold a thousand different sunsets. Another thousand dawns. In here, as part of the sea and sky, each day will be an entity set apart from those before and to come.

The land is a lesser, peripheral, presence. But you could study it all day from up here. Fifty kilometres of coast. From the Split Point Lighthouse at Aireys Inlet the Great Ocean Road rides a rollercoaster of hills through the forests of The Otways to and beyond Lorne. The hills ripple and fold with the passing sun.

Like no other house on the shipwreck coast you have the feeling you are perched on the edge of a vast unknown. Its a rare sensation. You get it at Treetops Hotel in Kenya at the edge of the immense Aberdare National Park. And at El Questro Station, sitting clifftop with the infinite Kimberly laid out below. At the Pole House you are at a frontier, the edge of the world you know and the beginning of some other exotic sphere. Its a mood, a portal to another place Antarctica or ease somewhere further away than you were expecting.”

An amazing experience! Views are breathtaking! Would definitely recommend :)

Stayed for one night for my partners birthday and absolutely loved it. Have always wanted to stay here and it met all expectations. Great town and easy access to the beach. Highly recommend to everyone.

Blown away by the audacity of this building

Stayed here as a birthday treat for my wife and we loved everything - amazing views, wild weather, swimming in the surf below; a very cosy eagles nest for a romantic night away. Cooked a lovely dinner, the amenities were perfectly adequate and well explained, and we even found the bed comfortable (a point of contention in other reviews). Will definitely repeat this in the future.

Dirty and not well maintenance

During our stay at the pole house we really admired the view and the fire place but thats pretty much it. There was questionable stains on the couch pillows that we wouldnt even dare to touch and half of the lights didnt work leaving the whole place very very dark at night! For the price we are paying we at least deserve to have working lights and a better bed (fold out from wall, like sleeping on a rock) Im only at uni and saved up from my part time job to stay here and was expecting a lot better Really quite disappointed

Great location

Had a great time, views and experience were better than anticipated after driving past and thinking about visiting for a last few years. Would definately book again

Fantastic views

This was our second stay at the pole house because we loved it so much the first time. The views are absolutely beyond belief and I would recommend a stay here at least once in your lifetime. If I gave less stars for comfort it was only because the fold out bed wasn't great to sleep on but I see that seems to be a common complaint. Overall a great experience.

Amazing Property

Absolutely Amazing Property! The architecture, the views, the location were all were 5 Star! The only reason we have given this property 4 Stars is due to the terribly uncomfortable foldaway bed and the linen in the property did not feel luxe at all. Improve these two things and you will have guests coming back time and time again. Overall a Unique Property!

Stay of a lifetime

This was on my bucket list since the first time I saw it and it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I parked the car and walked up the walkway to the house I was so excited. I spent a wonderful 24hrs in the house and it was hard to drag myself away from the view. I will definitely spend another night there in the future.

For many years since l was a child l have always been amazed by the Pole House. Now, after three nights l was blown away with the breathtaking views. I am so glad l stayed, it was amazing and extremely comfortable. There was plenty of wood for your cosy fire's. I shall be back!

Iconic Pole House

The views are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G and this is without a doubt a spectacular piece of architecture, and we are so glad we spent 2 nights there. We had a storm and it was beautiful, not to mention the sunrise in the morning, incredible! What wasnt so incredible, was the fold out bed that was not only very uncomfortable but it was small as well. I am unsure why they have a weird pull down bed when there is a no party rule (so why would you need to fold away the bed) and more than ample space for a comfy big king size bed. The linen, towels and bedding were old, pillows were horrible and really need an update, when youre paying over $600 per night to stay, its not really good enough to have such old bedding, do away with the fold out and buy a new bed, please!! If you plan to lap up the accommodation and spend a bit of time there rather than touring around, bring a laptop/device as the TV is old as the hills and you cant watch anything except basic live TV, and their DVDs which are all pre-1995. There are a handful of broken old board games as well. The recliners arent exactly comfy without a pile of cushions under your back! The bathroom door also didnt stay closed, not ideal ha ha! I was pretty disappointed to be instructed to put out rubbish and wash, dry and put away dishes, for the price of the accommodation, thats quite frankly robbery, it was also pouring rain when we left, so walking out wheelie bins wasnt an option. Im sure your cleaners can handle unpacking our few clean glasses from the dishwasher in the 4+ hours between us leaving and the new guests arriving! The location is great, down a quiet street and easy to find too, although it isnt walking distance to anything other than the beach, but it is just a short drive away from Aireys, Anglesea and Lorne. I wish I hadve known there were basic cooking facilities, as I wouldve loved to sink in to a bottle of wine and cook something there, as our stay was rainy and stormy, staying in and not driving anywhere wouldve been great. I did look for this many times prior to my stay and it wasnt listed on the site. Aireys has some awesome restaurants and bars, and Lorne is always great for a wander. The customer service of GORH was awesome as well- thanks again! I would absolutely come back for the view, but only if the basic things above were bought up to date and reflected the expensive price charged.

We stayed at this place for our 1 year wedding anniversary.. it has breathtaking views def worth visiting this place at least once or twice :) would be great if it had a spa only thing missing!

Unbelievably beautiful views

Had a wonderful mid week stay in the pole house, it rained for half the time but the views were incredible in any weather conditions. Check in and access to the property was a simple and smooth process. Plenty of amenities and the complimentary coffee was fantastic.

What a view!

We stayed at the pole house for our wedding night and an extra night after. Such a special location! We loved the sound of the waves at night, the automatic blinds in the morning to reveal the stunning ocean views in the morning and the beautiful fireplace that kept us nice and cosy!!!! The decor could do with a bit of an update but other than that it was a thoroughly enjoyable two nights.

Incredible view

Amazing place to stay, surprise night away for my husband. Our only recommendation is the mattress and pillows are not very comfortable and could possibly do with an update.

Just spent 4 days at this amazing property, love the history the transformation and the views. My husband and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary after having 3 children who are now 4 5.5 and almost 7 we enjoyed the tranquility of the ocean sounds and freedom to explore nature at it's best! Loved this unique experience and would love to come back sometime. We also had the great pleasure of meeting the owner which was lovely.

Wonderful experience

A surprise stay for my wife on our anniversary. Amazing views, 5 star accommodation, unforgettable experience. If its not on your bucket list, add it!

Amazing views !!!

Couldnt have been better. House was beautiful, stylish and equipped with everything we needed (and lots of lovely touches). The views were just spectacular !!!! In the morning the sunrise would wake you up, and at night the waves would put you to sleep.

The perfect proposal

Elevated 40m above Fairhaiven beach, waves rolling in this is a place like no other. The most romantic place to pop the question. Thanks for the amazing memories, it was worth every cent!

The Pole House

Amazing, stunning views, gorgeous fireplace and very relaxing. We will definitely be back

experience of a lifetime!

Something I will never forget. Stunning views. I could sit for hours and watch the surf roll in. Only disappointment was that the toilet wasn't clean.

Breathtaking views

What a fantastic location, with breathtaking views and all the creature, comforts you need to enjoy your stay. Staying in winter was not an issue with the beautiful first place and central heating. Also, a bonus with a winter booking was how peaceful, and quite the local towns were. Slightly disappointed with the cleanliness of the kitchen, though it certainly wasn't a deal-breaker once you recline the chairs, crank the fire and relax with a glass of red.

pure luxury

Once in a life opportunity to experience architecture at it's best in such a majestic part of the world.

Out of this world experience

We stayed in the incredible Pole House for two nights smack bang in the middle of winter and had the most amazing time!! The fireplace was awesome and the house just so warm and cosy. We stopped in Anglesea to get a big bag of marshmallows on the way there which also made the fireplace all the more fun at night. The bed was very comfortable and overall we would give everything 10/10. You feel as though you are living above the ocean and the views are totally captivating. Will definitely will be back!! Caleb & Deb

Almost perfect

The house, location and views are all stunning. The bed is average quality for that property. Window near the bed wouldn't open for fresh air which was a problem because the suspended fireplace would not stop smoking. It looked like a flue problem. We could only live in the room if we had the big glass doors open which took some shine off the experience.

From the first sight to walking through the front door my boyfriend and I couldnt get over how breathtaking the views were. We were lucky that we had sunny clear skys during the day but when it was cold at night the fire place was perfect and kept us so warm and toasty! We were nervous about seeing so many reviews about the tidiness and the bed not being comfy, but it was spotless and the bed was fine to sleep on. It was so hard to leave... well defiantly be back!

Views are breathtaking

Spent 2 nights at The Pole House as a surprise for my wifes 60th. She loved it. Views are breathtaking. Open the sliding doors, listen to the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach. Smell the sea air blowing through the house. At night light up the log fire and enjoy the ambience and serenity. Staff from Great Ocean Road Real Estate were very helpful. Even helped with arranging a Birthday Cake for my wife. Only criticism was it went all to quickly. Hopefully we will come again one day

Fantastic location

Hubby and I ticked of the bucket list for 2 romantic nights at the Pole House the views is what takes your breath away. Waking up at sunrise with these ocean views was totally amazing with no need to close the blinds! .just wished there was a luxurious king size bed for this type of accomodation, instead of the fold out bed that you could close back in the wall. Not very comfortable to sleep on. It is a pity the rest lets the experience down. The essentials within are far from 5 star. Long list of do's and dont's and instructions for leaving (wash and dry dishes and put away, take out rubbish ect. Ect ) And guys " come on really " I am sure with the price of the property you could afford to pay cleaners to do these jobs .I don't pay those prices to do a clearners job and ive stayed at many 5 star resorts and B & B around the world and never had to do these jobs. Lights over the dining room table didnt work outside lights didnt work and blinds wouldnt go down. Those things sorted it would have been a great experience.

The room with the best view!

Hubby and I celebrated our Wedding Anniversary for 2 romantic nights at the Pole House (also a bucket list accomplishment). Room was clean, neat and tidy, but the views is what takes your breath away. You are provided with essential kitchen amenities, but you need your own bathroom products & extra toilet paper. Had fun finding the bathroom door! Waking up at sunrise with these ocean views was totally amazing with no need to close the blinds! Cooked our own breakfast each morning, followed by a walk along the beach then dined out locally for lunch and dinner (recommend Aireys Pub)! Nice bottle of wine, fire going, listening to the waves was how we spent our evenings in....just wished there was a luxurious king size bed for this type of accomodation, instead of the fold out bed that you could close back in the wall. Although comfortable to sleep on, it was hard to sit back and relax with a cuppa!Everything else is perfect for that special time at The Pole House, a time we will cherish forever!

Stunning Location, Amazing view!!!!!!!

I booked this for my partners 30th Birthday! We had the best night! The most spectacular views and weather made for such a special night. We stayed in enjoying the view and made use of the fire. Ill be back to stay again sometime in the future! Even met the owners who were up for a chat and very welcoming!

Absolutely Epic

Stayed in April. Hang gliders waving overhead, horses on the beach and views from Aireys Light House to Lorne. Open fire was fantastic for a cosy night in. Bed was comfortable and woke up to that spectacular view. Even got to have a chat with the owner who was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this accommodation to anyone contemplating a stay.

Absolutely Amazing

The Pole House is an absolutely amazing place to stay. The views are absolutely stunning and the house itself is such a unique place to stay. The only thing I could fault would be that I would've expected a more luxurious bed in a property of that price point. Other than that I would highly recommend a stay at The Pole House edpecially for a special occasion. You cannot beat the amazing views and the indoor wood fire also added a beautiful ambience. Very happy with our choice of property for our special werkend away.

Absolutely Breathtaking

At first i was a little hesitant to book after reading the reviews, but im so glad i got past that feeling & Booked Seriously what is all the fuss about, The VIEW is enough and the history is fascinating Thank you for giving us the opportunity to experience it. Will definitely return

I can not explain how highly I recommend this place. My husband took me there for my birthday and it was the best birthday/little get away ever. I can not explain our breath taking the views are from morning to night. Me and my husband was just in disbelieve on how amazing the view is.... I will definitely be back weather it would be for a girls little get away or with my husband. I can not stop pranging on to my friends and family how amazing this place is. It is a MUST do for anyone that is reading the reviews.

Let down by current owners

This ionic property with many outstanding qualities including the location and views is let down by the current owners and how it is maintained. No coffee pods, no shampoo or conditioner, sugar in a jar with no lid and half solid, flat batteries in the TV remote (& you need a degree to run the stereo system), cheap store branded body wash. In summary, no 5 star trimmings. Our night was meant to be a special gift from my wife the night after our wedding however she was let down by the current owners who didn't provide the 5 star experience that they advertised. All of this would be fixed for the next 10 guests by the owners visiting a supermarket and spending less than 10% of what we paid for our night. It looks like a string of similar reviews with issues not being fixed - I'd look elsewhere.

Amazing Location

View 5 star+Location 5 star+Building 5 star+. It is a pity the rest lets the experience down. The essentials within are far from 5 star. Bed uncomfortable and felt like someone had slept in bed. Either cleaning issues or very cheap sheets. Kitchen essentials very poor most obtained from $2 shop. Long list of do's and dont's and instructions for leaving (Sweep/mop floor) Mop had no mop head and broom some sort of straw thing that hardly could be used. And guys " come on really " I am sure with the price of the property you could afford to pay cleaners to put wheelie bins out. I don't pay those prices to put wheelie bins out. Those things sorted it would have been a great experience.

Stunning View

Celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Pole House. Jaw dropping views and just loved going to sleep and waking to the sound of the ocean. Had a friendly Cockatoo come and visit and was also entertained by the paragliders passing by. The views are stunning. Was a little disappointed by the lack of toiletries such as there was no Shampoo/Condition provided as you would get in a hotel, no tissues (a box in the pantry could come in handy) ). Kitchen utensils could have been much cleaner and pantry was a little dirty. The electric stove top is old and was full of grease it wasnt working properly one of the knobs broken off so you couldnt turn off one of the hotplates, I think you are due to buy aa new one. This was not what I would have expected for the amount you pay, however by all means these little things that can be improved on did not ruin our weekend at all. Easy access to the beach which was great.

They say life is not measured by he number of breaths you take but the moments that take you breath away !! Staying at the iconic Pole House in Fairhaven on the Great Ocean Road was certainly one of those moments. It was such an amazing, unfortgettable experience that words can not truly justify. Soooo Grateful and blessed to have shared it all with my husband , the love of my life , and ticked it off our bucket list. Definitely plan to return to this amazing residence with a magnificent view in a truly beautiful, extraordinary and precious part of the world. Just Priceless and Breathtaking !! With Much love and affection always xoxox

Bucket list tick!

We had a fabulous stay at the pole house. Was a cool night so we we lit the fire and it was magical. Cockatoos came and visited. The views are stunning of course. Mostly amenities were good but could be improved upon (little things like no kitchen sponge, quality of toiletries etc). Kitchen could have been a bit cleaner but certainly nothing to spoil our wonderful stay. Parking was super easy and flat access from car to house. Very close to beautiful beach (5 min walk - a bit steep for those who have mobility issues who might wish to take a car).

Amazing Views

Took my hubby here for his 30th. After wanting to go since we started going out its safe to say , it was well worth the 12 year wait!! We were definitely impressed! Waking up to the waves crashing and having lunch overlooking the beach was just awsome. We had a friendly cockatoo come and visit us a few times, lots of waves from cars and it was handy having a walk way down to the beach. I can now tick The Pole House off my bucket list. Thanks so much

Indescribably beautiful

Had the most incredible stay! We felt so priveledged to be able to stay at such an iconic location and it did not disappoint. The amenities are modern, bed was comfortable and the views are unparralled. Sunset was especially magical and we will definitely be back.

Amazing views

It was amazing place to stay. Very easy to get keys (maybe a bit more security there like ID or even your name). The views just blow you away. What a feeling staying so high above the ground. Nite time there is no lights to find things a bit of a down side (no dinning room lights as broken). Other then that it was a very amazing, enjoyable place to stay. Will be back

Complete Zen

A dream come true for us! Saw in the New Year at the Pole House which was a celebration treat for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We travelled the Great Ocean road on our honeymoon and never did we think we would be lucky enough to spend 2 nights at this iconic destination. Walking on air with the biggest smiles for 2 days whilst experiencing the mid air accommodation. Thank you to the owners for allowing us to come an experience a truly special place. Brought us even closer. We hope to come back! H and J

This amazing get away place was worth every penny spent! A one in a life time opportunity and the views are to die for!!

Amazing. Memorable.

We stayed 2 nights in the Pole House and it was very memorable. The view is nothing short of stupendous, and walking out on that walkway, and around the balcony is something you won't experience anywhere else. It's not the kind of place you stay long-term: a night or two, because the privacy blinds keep no light out (you'll be awake at the crack of dawn), the kitchen facilities are inadequate (please get rid of that rusty old frying pan! A replacement can be cheaply bought anywhere), and the bed is fairly small (not sure it's even a queen-size bed). But you aren't there to cook or sleep-in: you're here to absorb that amazing, wonderful and ever-changing view of the world in your own personal paradise. I hope to come back again one day, it was a wonderful experience. Thank you to the neighbours' golden border collie Sandy who paid us a lovely visit for 30 minutes or so! (what a lovely sweet dog!)

Amazing property. Brilliant views.

Amazing place, second to none views. Clean. Facilities could be improved on (e.g. no tea bags, the fire place stank out the room of ash and we hadn’t even used it, bed very uncomfortable). Would recommend stay for experience of views mostly.

Amazing Views

Spent 2 nights in December as a surprise for my wifes 60th.

Truly amazing!

This is a must do!! You won’t be disappointed & you will never experience anything quite like this anywhere else in the world.

Amazing views

Booked in this stay a couple of months in advance. Check out is 11am, but due to the next booking the following evening on, we felt quite rushed by the staff at Great Ocean Road Real Estate to check out much earlier so they could collect the key before the allocated check in time of 2pm.

A Place like no other

Planned to propose nearly 2 years in advance and everything went smoothly. Property manager did their job properly and our stay was stunning. I agree with the fact that some amenities are not up to top standard set by the price however for us it was just absolutely worth the experience.

Stunning views

Such an amazing place to stay at. Not many properties in the world could match it for views

Simply Amazeballs

Absolutely amazing time in the pole house. Stunning views day and night, crackling fire, laying in bed watching the world go by what else could you ask for.

Beautiful view, but overpriced

The house is a great novelty and lovely to experience the architecture and view. It’s let down however by an uncomfortable bed and pillows, lack of space in the bathroom to put any toiletries and just poor quality items like a rusty bin in the bathroom, thin towels and doona.

Beautiful location

Beautiful place, stunning views enjoyed our stay immensely .

Amazing view

Due to the way the house is built the view is so unique that you probably won't find another in Australia, probably even in the whole world....a really really relaxing weekend for us...

Awesome experience

had awesome weekend, waking up in the morning to lovely view. Nice and was a surprise for 50th and no regrets. Lifetime memory made :)

A house we've driven past countless times in our lives and always still find ourselves looking up as we pass. Never did we think wed spend a night here. We were pretty excited leading up to the stay, however when you first pull up and see the walkway leading out to the house you turn into a kid again. It is beautiful, the views are incredible, the house itself is modern, sleek and clean. The fireplace in winter was incredibly cosy. Our expectations were blown out of the water and our jaws on the floor the whole time we spent here. You can people watch on the beach, in the surf, in their cars people wave and toot when they see you on the balconies, others stop and take photos from below. You can search the horizons for whales (which we didnt see), however saw a pod of dolphins playing in the surf. Stock up on some snacks and drinks, get some takeaway pizza in Aireys and spend as much time as possible in this place, you wont be disappointed. Thank you very much!

We spent a night in the Pole House celebrating our 10th Anniversary and what an experience it is! Being able to watch the sun go down with the fire glowing to sleeping with the blinds up and watching the stars with the sound of the ocean all around is unparalleled awesomeness! Imagine waking to the sounds of the surf rolling in and feeling at peace with creation at your doorstep! We will fondly remember our night here for many years to come. Thanks Ray and Kathy! Matt & Aimee

This surprise booking took my girlfriends breath away! From the stunning views to the perfect location of a romantic getaway. Over our stay we took in the incredible views, modern features and architectural masterpiece. A once in a lifetime experience and a tick off our bucket list. Thank you to the Pole House!

Had an amazing stay at the pole house. The views from the room are simply amazing (photos just don't do it justice!), one of the more memorable experiences. The place was clean and comfortable. Suggest having some wine and cheese ready, as there is nothing better than enjoying good food and company by the fire with the view. Will definitely be back.

Exceeded expectations

I surprised my partner with a night at The Pole House.. and I proposed! It was the most magical setting and we both felt like we were on top of the world. I knew this place was amazing from the photos, but it exceeded expectations! The accommodation is very luxurious and comfortable - we enjoyed every aspect of it and felt very cosy all night. Little issues that were brought up on previous reviews (no firelighters etc.) have all been resolved and we couldn't fault it. The view speaks for itself, but trust me it is 100x better in person. Thanks for the stay, I'm sure we will be back to celebrate our anniversary!

WOW factor

An absolutely majestic stay. Wow factor architecturally & scenically with uninterrupted views of the coast. The experience is a must.

Amazing, tranquil views!

We were lucky enough to spend 2 nights at the Pole House as a 60th birthday present. The views are magical, and we were taken aback by how beautiful the sun rise was. Lovely clean and modern home. A must for a special occasion and a peaceful escape.

Wonderful but desperately needed coffee!

We had a one night stay at The pole House to celebrate my partner's birthday. It was a wonderful surprise for him and we just loved the view and the fire. We have even discussed coming back on our wedding night if we ever get married. We did miss having coffee though (there were only 2 pods). And a little extra inclusion such as a light breakfast or a bottle of champagne would have been so nice to make clients feel valued. But overall it was worth the view. L&J

A sensation destination

Thankyou for the opportunity to stay for two nights in one of Australia’s most unique and stunning holiday locations. It was a surprise weekend away for my 40th birthday and loved it! Could I suggest that a few small items are looked at - as we were there in very windy conditions the front door rattled throughout the night. Easily fixed if adjusted or even have a bolt lock available. Also there was ample fire wood etc however no matches or lighters (with gas) available. I’d also suggest putting a small label on the bathroom cabinet so people are aware where all the soaps atc are. Either way - it was a memorable and lovely stay! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wonderful Stay !

Such a special place to celebrate my husbands 55th birthday! Iconic land mark in Fairhaven, amazing views with simple yet stunning decor ! We loved every part of it !!!

Easter Travellers

Amazing views and the windows were cleaned (both inside and out) the day we arrived, but the accommodation and furniture needs a significant upgrade. The property wasn't clean, the kitchen facilities are inadequate and the bed was the most uncomfortable we have ever experienced.

Wow - what a place to stay. Bought this stay for my husbands birthday. The view is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. The house itself is quaint but has everything you need. Lighting the fire late afternoon was brilliant. Sitting there with the beautiful view beyond the fireplace - contentment plus!!! Would absolutely recommend this to anyone want that 'bucket list" experience. However, I think one day we might just go again.

Pole House. January 2018

An incredible getaway with extraordinary views and grand luxury at its finest. A tip.... The toilet paper is stored in the glass cupboard in the bathroom, on the wall. We searched for hours until we accidentally came across it. The TV is tricky to use, however Vicky from the real estate office saved the day and talked us through the procedure. The bed was very comfy, the kitchenette was clean and easy to use. A real treat..... Purely Magical!

Salute to the Pole House

A big thank you to the new owners that have made this true architectural wonder available to the public to enjoy. Been driving past this iconic house for close to 30 years, and was absolutely delighted to have had an opportunity to stay over the weekend.

Post card views

I don't think you could find a place to stay with better views. It is the perfect romantic getaway and we loved spending our wedding anniversary there. The cleanliness was spot on and the only room for improvement is the bed - it could be bigger.

Words can only describe this fantastic venue, you need to experience this place with that special someone. Thanks so much to Kathy and Ray for providing such a spectacular place for our 30th wedding anniversary.

A Must Experience

I have been holidaying along the Great Ocean Road since I was a child and have always wanted to stay at The Pole House . . . it was a dream come true and did not disappoint . . . a 'must do' experience and perfect for a special occasion or romantic getaway. Highly recommend.

Amazing Place

Great place for a romantic escape. My husband and I spent the long weekend there and were so mesmerized by it that we ate in two out of the three night!

Could have been so much better

A spectacular property in a stunning location. I took my wife there on the weekend for her 40th & whilst the accommodation was very impressive and high end, the overwhelming smell of smoke was a real letdown. This was compounded when we lit the fire and were then smoked out. What's disappointing is that this appears to be a known issue (based on subsequent reading of reviews). Whether it's a poor design or overdue for a clean, for the price, we expected a lot lot better. Without that issue the experience would have been worth every cent.

Perfect couples retreat!

My husband bought me a voucher for the Pole House for my birthday. It was a perfect place for a quiet getaway to reconnect without the usual family demands. The weather wasn't brilliant, so we spent a lot of time reclined with a drink and cheese platter watching movies, reading and just staring out at the view. We prepared our own breakfast and ate out for lunch and dinner. The Airey's Inlet Pub is just down the road and we enjoyed our meal there. We did get to have a lovely walk along the beach too, which is just beautiful.

An experience like no other

The Pole is an experience like no other! We spent hours in darkness reclined on the couch, sipping red wine and staring past the open fire across a half moon lit ocean. It was a most memorable experience. Having managed accommodation properties along the Great Ocean Road for the past 15 years I must say my wife and l have pretty high expectations. Well, we were nothing short of amazed. Put all the amenity aside and just believe in the experience, it is like no other. Yes the bed looks a touch small (its not, & its super comfy) & the kitchen doesnt lend itself to a roast dinner (go to A La Grecque & Truffles for breaky), thats not what its about. Crack a bottle of red, hit the couch, press the auto recline button and embrace the feeling.

Almost perfection.

Amazing view, wonderfully appointed. Major let down which prevents it being perfect is bed - like a camp mattress, put in a deserving bed and do away with the wall fold out, people deserve better for the spend and then it would be perfect in all ways.

Exceptional Stay!

The Pole House and it's extraordinary views made me feel so alive and grateful for the planet we have!Natural beauty is revealing from this space & place, the planet is truly worth saving!Don't miss experiencing the Pole House. Please ignore some of the negative reviews about a little dust & unclean windows. What do you expect at the sea with so much open air! I am a clean nut case and loved the place!

A unique experience

Absolutely worth it. The view is sensational and the building iconic. Small things that others have noted remain true. The inside cleaning is not great plus we end up cleaning the windows to enjoy the view. Some basic amenities were missing or limited (dishwasher gel/handwashing gels, rubbish bags etc) We still loved it and would recommend it

WOW !!!!

So many unique aspects. The walkway to the front door will take your breath away. Once inside, you walk around the centre bathroom and are confronted with the most amazing views. Floor to ceiling glass with an amazing suspended fireplace. We really enjoyed our short stay. The surf club dinner on the Saturday night was a lot of fun...and easy stumbling distance back to the house. If it had a coffee pod machine, it would be perfect!

Simply beautiful

Breathtaking views of the ocean exceeded expectations. Listening to the waves crash whilst resting , looking out towards the nights sky filled with stars , the lightening was simply just incredible to watch across the water in the far distance. This really is a magical place to stay to really surround your senses and rejuvenate your spirit. The pole house iSimply put is heaven on a stick

Stunning views

The Pole House is an experience of a lifetime Outstanding views. Sunset, full moon and sunrise all incredible The mattress was uncomfortable and the overall cleanliness was not up to standard. The glass ballastrade was dirty but the windows were clean. Inside the cupboards were dusty The portable cooktop needs to be added in the online description Note the hidden cabinet in the bathroom storing toilet paper

Unique Experience

The view and unique style of the house was amazing to experience, however, we felt a few small things were a disappointment - these were: A strong smell of smoke upon entering the house. Badly scratched Teflon frypan, thin scratchy bath towels, very old bath mat, no body products supplied, a hidden cupboard that housed toilet paper which we did not know about - lucky we took some. The windows were extremely dirty until we gave them a quick clean to enjoy the view.

Floating on clouds

This was the most amazing place we have ever stayed in. Nothing can possibly beat watching the ocean, a fireplace and having that view. We can't wait to be back.

The photos do not do this house justice

House quality:10/10. Location/views:12/10. If I am going to be overly critical there is no provision for laundry service for those committed to a longer term stay. Also being a fold out bed the mattress on it is unsleepable and literally rock hard. Which is a real shame considering the quality of the house and the attention to detail the owner has gone to ensure the best experience for their guests. It's just honest feedback that Im hoping the owners will review as we'll definitely be back.

MUST be added to anyone's bucket list!

Perched high above the Great Ocean Rd with the most heavenly vistas, this is, at the very least, a one-off must do magical experience. The ambience, the facilities, the majesty of the views, the uniqueness of the location.... it's all there! We will definitely be back again.....and again!
