Needs a good clean!!

RachaelL - 26th May 2019

I could have copied and pasted the review from cocoarrarra from Jan 2018 as it seems our experience was almost identical! Aside from the mishap of arriving and realising our property had not been cleaned (I understand mistakes happen), it was the general lack of care and the response from the owner which makes me think that no feedback for this property will be taken on board. Clearly there has been no action taken based on past negative reviews regarding cleanliness either. After making a point of calling the office in the days prior to arrival to ensure I understood what 'no linen provided' meant, I was assured although I needed to bring sheets, towels and tea towels, when we arrived there were no quilts provided for either of the 2 queen beds, and no quilt covers. Despite the owner's protests I have not ever had to bring my own quilt covers to anywhere stating 'bring your own linen'. The quilts on all beds were stained considerably to the point none of us really wanted to sleep in them. The mattress protectors were filthy and clearly in need of washing/dry cleaning. The housekeeper attended to a quick clean of the property whilst we made ourselves scarce, however under all beds, in and under the couches etc there was a large volume of dust and dirt. This place offered a great location but by no means was clean to rental standards and was not cheap! We also could not find anything decent to clean the floors with throughout our stay, I tried an old vacuum cleaner from the garage but it wouldn't work effectively. Although a great location close to everything, I would not rent this property again or recommend. Despite providing feedback to the agent I am confident no action will be taken.

Great family stay

KateR - 21st January 2019

This is the second time we have rented this house for our annual family beach holiday. Great set-up, plenty of room for the family and all the amenities you need. We will be back :)

cocoarrarra - 29th January 2018

We love Apollo Bay and stay there every summer, so we have a pretty good sense of what's on offer in terms of holiday rentals. We've stayed at the house next door to Makana a number of times and it's been brilliant. This summer it was booked out so we booked into Makana, which from the outside at least looks identical. We paid more for seven nights at Makana than for eight next door the previous year at the same time of January. And being January, we paid a lot. We did not get value for money. There was a general lack of care and cleanliness around the place - furniture did not appear to have been vacuumed underneath in a long time, there were blood stains on our doona and nasty stains on the mattress protector, a broken blind in the upstairs bedroom, a fold up bed with a huge splintered slat sticking out of it. dead light globes in two of the lamps (indeed one of the lamps appeared to be faulty as it blew out again when we replaced the globe), and lots of stains and marks on the walls. Perhaps it's not surprising that the place is not very clean given the lack of cleaning equipment provided - one shoddy broom, no mop, and a vacuum cleaner with a head so completely blocked with hair and grime that it was unusable. The kitchen bin was filthy underneath the bin bag. The microwave had not been cleaned. The kitchen was by no means 'fully equipped' - for instance, there were no salad bowls and one bread board but no chopping boards. Those are pretty basic items for a kitchen to have. Even most of the clothes pegs on the line were broken. These probably seem like trivial gripes but they add up - especially when you're paying over $2000 for the privilege. We ended the week feeling a bit ripped off. Knowing Apollo Bay pretty well, I can confidently say there are definitely better deals out there.

Great Family Holiday rental

KateR - 21st January 2018

We stayed for a week in Makana in Jan 2018. The location was great and the townhouse was perfectly set up for families. We enjoyed the large living / dining area and the kitchen was also equipped with everything we needed. During our stay we had a small problem and had very quick response from RE Agents as well. Hope to stay again next year.
