This basic three bedroom holiday home offers families and couples a budget friendly escape, with million dollar views.
Set amongst a small selection of homes facing south from Wye River, Koala South is that cool little weatherboard place that everybody can connect with. Full width balcony, lounge and 2 of three bedrooms afford ocean views and no escape from the sound of crashing waves.
Days here are spent navigating the horizon for oncoming ships or weather changes, a good book or board game and a trip to the beach, store and pub. Is that simple really. Maybe throw in a BBQ, romantic wood fire and the daily paper and we think you have the perfect holiday any time of year. See you soon.
Please keep pets from disturbing resident Koala :-)

5 star views; balcony unsafe for toddlersWard Olivete - 22nd May 2022
The views at Koala South and location in Wye River are top-notch. There were two huntsman spiders inside during our stay, so there could be some hole where they are coming in. Also, there were spiderwebs and dead insects in the bathroom above the toilet - not the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed. As you can see in the property photos, the wire cables that secure the balcony balustrade are far apart - there really should be more cables closer together - not safe. Notwithstanding, we’d stay again.
Good locationBianca Fuller - 23rd April 2022
Great location. Overall, the place was a little run down and needed a better clean there were cobwebs, insects and a few dishes were dirty. Probably need to check the compliance of the balcony as not suitable for young children. As per the VBA Check that there are no openings with gap of more then 125 mm sphere to pass through the barriers and Where it is possible to fall more than 4 metres, check that any horizontal elements of the barrier between 150 mm and 760 mm do not facilitate climbing.

Loved our stay! Views were amazing, house was cozy, location spot on and the wildlife was abundant. Would stay again in a heart beat.
We loved the ocean view!Erin Aldersea - 29th October 2021
Very comfy property with an amazing ocean view from every room. We had a great four day stay in October 2021 with our small dog Barney. The kitchen is well stocked and the bed was comfy. Only improvements needed are some more comfortable outdoor chairs for relaxing on the balcony.
Pawfect mid week breakNatasha Frederick - 19th July 2021
My husband and I and our ridgeback stayed here for a winter mid week break. House is comfortable and well supplied with a stunning view of the ocean. It was exactly what we needed and loved falling asleep to the sound of waves. Great location just up the hill from the pub and general store/cafe and Wye river beach which we explored every morning with the dog. Check in and check out really easy and friendly. We will be back for sure
Good for priceAmanda Allisey - 4th July 2021
The place is as described and a comfortable stay. Views are amazing and the sound of the waves is incredibly peaceful. The house was stocked with plenty of wood to keep the warm fireplace going. The notes said to take your own linen which we did but the beds were made when we got there. Despite this there were no towels. The place does need a good clean throughout. Nothing too bad but there are a lot of cobwebs/dirt/dust that have collected. We had a lovely time and enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Hidden Gem!David - 2nd December 2019
Hidden Gem with amazing views, Koala in the back, loved this place.
Spectacular ViewsLynsey - 19th July 2019
Lovely compact accomodation with spectacular views and furry neighbours. Only source of heating is fire in main living area which was just about enough to heat the property. Great location for exploring,
Fabulous viewLynsey - 9th July 2019
Nice compact house with spectacular views with sound of the waves throughout the house. Fun searching for and spotting the resident Koala! Fire doesnt have a fan but heated house sufficiently enough. Oven didnt work which was a downside. Perfect location to switch off, explore, read a good book and recharge!
Great ViewSebastien - 26th February 2019
Great relaxing place for an escape. Affordable, beautiful view with most of what you need for a week end. The beds were not the best but we greatly enjoyed our stay.
Great views in a semi-refurnished houseBrandon - 18th November 2018
Most affordable property on Sturt Court which has the best views in Wye River as it extends out on a little cape and the area is quite hilly, which gives the dramatic views. The house was generally clean, and was noticeably refurnished recently. The exterior is dated but with some modern refurnished bits in the interior, giving it a slightly rustic vibe. The dining tables, living area and bedrooms had new furniture which made it more comfortable. The kitchen however was only slightly refurnished with a new bench top. The cupboards still remaining a too dated and slightly dirty-looking to pass off as rustic. The oven was not well maintained and was also dirty. The dishwasher liquid also ran out and there were not any spares so we had to buy them ourselves after being told by the property managers that it was not a fully serviced accommodation. This was a slight disappointment as most airbnb accommodations would normally stock up sufficient cleaning necessities without any issues or at least provide us with replacements without additional charges. The only heating option is the living room fireplace which was malfunctioning at the time as the circulation fan was not working.. making it an inefficient heater which took a long time to heat up the room. There are no heating/cooling in the bedrooms. The wood provided were not suitable for starting a fire with simple matches and magazines, as the smaller pieces of wood were processed and hard to light up. Firestarters and matches were not provided on the premise (compared to other airbnb locations, they would normally be provided), so in the end we had to spend additional money ourselves to buy them from Foodworks (apollo bay). The laundry area/main entrance was dated, but the washing machine and dryer works sufficiently. The bathroom sink was new but shower area is quite small. Views from the deck were amazing, though a nearby tree obscures the view ever so slightly... however that tree is home to a neighbourhood koala which was there every morning, so that makes up for it. If you were looking for completely unobstructed views (without the tree with the koala), you will be better off looking for the houses that are 1-2 doors down the street (further out towards the cape). The sound of the waves can be heard everywhere in the house, we didn't mind it and found it great as white noise when sleeping. However some may not agree with this sentiment. Keep in mind Sturt Court is also not paved and relatively small. So I would only recommend normal-sized passenger cars to be driven there. Trailers would not be recommended to be driven there. As the general store prices are also more expensive and options are limited, a proper grocery run would require you to go to the nearest supermarket - Foodworks in Apollo Bay, which is approx 30 mins drive from the house.
Great house overlooking the oceanJustin - 6th November 2018
This is a fine house with a cracking view overlooking the ocean. No fancy furnishings or silly decor but this is not important when you have that ocean view and the sound and smell of the sea. We had everything we needed and all the important things, like the beach and the pub, were within walking distance. The weber on the deck was great, the layout of the home practical and comfortable and all the commodities that were provided in the kitchen, laundry and bathroom worked well. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Comfort, views and wildlifevc03 - 26th June 2018
Koala South is exactly what we wanted for a winter weekend - comfortable, surprisingly spacious, with great views, koalas, kookaburras and an extremely effective wood heater.
Perfect, cozy ocean getawayPaul - 8th June 2018
We came here once last year and while we enjoyed it, the house itself was a little dated. Visiting it again post-refurbishment we were in love with not only the location but also the house! The bedrooms and living room in particular were very comfy and made enjoying the outside views even easier. Also we made friends with a koala! Thanks again."
2 Night GetawayJulie - 12th April 2018
Koala South is now nicely renovated and clean. However I wouldn't consider it pet friendly, with no where to contain or house a dog outside, and all literature stating they were not allowed inside (the agent said we could have had our dog inside but not on furniture! Contradictory to literature). The fire is the only heating option and there was no wood for it. Estate agents said we should have told them and it would be provided. Kids disappointed in TV reception which kept cutting out. The sound of waves were inescapable and sounded like a constant windstorm - Some people may love that. Bathroom needs a ceiling fan. Rubbish needs to be taken to a remote location as rubbish truck won't go down narrow road.
Hidden TreasureSarah - 5th April 2018
This place is a hidden treasure. Doesnt look too fancy on the outside but a pleasant surprise awaits once you enter. Amazing views! The house is perched on top of the hill overlooking Wye river but only a 10 minute walk from the pub and the general store. Love sitting in front of the fire and hearing the ocean below. Everything you need for a great break away from it all is here!
DisapointingSusan - 8th November 2017
Unfortunately a getaway that our family had been looking forward to for months was very disappointing because of the state of the accommodation, never stayed anywhere so dirty. Mouldy carpet, stained carpet, filthy microwave, dirty shower, throw cushions on the couch musty and split, dirty pots in the drawers. I had to clean everything before we could use it, not good enough. There was also not enough wood for the fire so we had to go and buy some twice. We were told by the agent that it was budget accommodation, we certainly did not pay budget money and since when did budget mean dirty.
Amazing views, we love this placeKatherine - 11th April 2017
What a great location, this house is just a little walk up the hill from the General Store and local Pub. You can see the ocean from the living areas and two of the bedrooms, it's just magical. We visited in Summer but it would also be a great little winter getaway watching the ships pass with the fire burning. The people in town were very welcoming and directed us to the dog beach which is just to the right of the main beach. Such a great little getaway for both groups, families and anyone travelling with pets. Wye River for the win!
