Welcome to Johanna House!
This 1930’s single-story, 3 bedroom, timber home is as unique as the Johanna coastline. Mixing the best of Australian bush & the Southern Ocean, Johanna House is a hidden getaway gem!
The property is set on approximately 4 acres of Messmate gums, native of the Otways, these Eucalypts reach high above the property. Wildlife you may encounter are koalas, kookaburras, blue wrens, wallabies, echidnas, and kangaroos to name a few.
The house has been in one family for 30 years, tenderly restored with solid timber spotted gum floorboards throughout & 10 foot/ 3 metre high ceilings, giving the property a lofted, open feel.
The master bedroom with Queen is very spacious with views into the surrounding bush. From the master bedroom you view an expansive, sun-drenched deck with further views through the trees of Johanna Beach & Moonlight Head in the distance, a view not available from many other vantage-points along the coast.
The second bedroom has Queen and third bedroom with tri-bunk plus a single bed, thus accommodating 8 guests in total. The open-plan, kitchen & dining area with extra-large fridge/freezer & 8 seater dining-table, has views to the lawned garden through double, vintage glassed doors. An additional outdoor garden dining setting is nestled amongst the gums.
An adjacent main lounge room with TV and CD player – a separate DVD player and screen is in the bunk room. A Coonara wood heater adds ambiance on those cooler nights with 2 nights of fire wood made available for your stay (please purchase any additional wood from Apollo Bay or Lavers Hill). Additional reverse-cycle, split-system air-conditioning also available.
The large bathroom with stone tiles has coastal charm, a vintage claw-and-ball bath with a spectacular vantage-point of the same view. Separate shower, vanity & toilet. Separate Laundry with second toilet. Front loader washing machine & dryer.
This eclectic retreat situated only 25 minutes drive from Apollo Bay, 40 minutes to the 12 Apostles, a 7 minute drive to Johanna Beach via Red Johanna Road and only 15 minutes drive to see the glow worms at Melba Gully. Perfectly positioned to explore The Great Ocean Road, Cape Otways history, its natural beauty and attractions.
Or you can relax with a book on the veranda, cook using the BBQ provided or a home meal in the well-equipped kitchen. There is open space surrounding for playing outdoor games. Free to air TV, DVDs, CDs, books and board games are provided.
If you are wanting a completely relaxing, secluded tree & sea escape, then this property is for you! Whether a family nature getaway or a romantic escape from the hustle & bustle, this property will not disappoint.

Beautiful house and gardens! Great location and very hospitable!!
Gorgeous cottage in a great private location with beautiful garden. Beds were fantastic with crisp linen and wonderful mattresses and we had a lovely 5 days walking the Great Ocean Walk. Apollo Bay is only 35 minutes drive away and the Aire River campground is 10 minutes away and is beautiful for an evening walk and BBQ. Highly recommend this house.
Make sure you check in by 5pm, even if you are using the lock box, because if you have any issues you won’t be able to reach anyone
